# Change the Name of a Report

## How do I change the name of a report?

You can rename any report yourself, at any time, without going through support.

### Edit the name directly

This works on every report, whatever its status.

Open the report and click the pencil beside its name in the header. The name becomes editable in place.

Type the new name and press **Enter** to save it, or **Esc** to cancel. The new name appears immediately in your Report List and at the top of the report.

### Ask Stella to rename it

While a report is a **Draft**, or is **Ready** and you're reviewing it, you can just say so in the chat — for example, "rename this report to Quarterly Occupancy Review". Stella makes the change and confirms it in the conversation.

This is handy when you're already chatting about a report and don't want to break off to edit the header.

> **Good to know**
> 
> The chat box only accepts messages while a report is a Draft or is Ready for your review. On Active, Working and Pending reports it's greyed out, so the pencil in the header is the way to rename those.

> **Good to know**
> 
> Avoid apostrophes and other punctuation in report names. Some characters interfere with creating the report's spreadsheet, which can leave a version without its Google Sheets link. Plain words, numbers, spaces and hyphens are all safe.

Renaming affects the report from that point on. Versions already produced keep the name they were created with, so an older spreadsheet in your Google account won't be retitled.
