# Ask for a New Report

## How do I ask for a new Stella Smart Report?

Reports start as a conversation. You describe what you want to know; Stella works out how to build it.

### Start the conversation

Click **+ New report** — it's at the top of your Report List, and on the page you land on when you log in.

Describe what you want the report to do, in plain language. There's no format to follow and no fields to fill in — "weekly pre-lease by floorplan, flag anything under 90%" is exactly the right kind of answer. If you'd rather start from something, the suggestions underneath fill the box for you.

Submitting creates a **Draft** and opens the conversation.

### What Stella will ask you

From there it's a back-and-forth. Stella will typically work through:

1. **The question behind the report** — what you're trying to find out or decide. Leasing activity,rent collections, maintenance, occupancy, and so on.
2. **A sample of the report** — a small mock-up of the table it has in mind, so you can react tosomething concrete rather than describe it in the abstract.
3. **Refinements** — which columns to include, which properties and what timeframe to cover, and howoften you want it.
4. **Where the numbers come from** — which figures come straight out of your property managementsystem, and which Stella needs to calculate. Answering this well is what makes the finished report match what you had in mind.

Take as long as you like. Nothing is committed while you're talking.

### Submitting the report

When the report describes what you want, click **I Love It**.

That hands the report to the Stella team and moves it out of Draft.

**Help! The "I Love It" button is greyed out.**

It becomes available once Stella has enough to work from — until then, the message beside it says more information is needed.

If you believe you've described the report fully, ask Stella to "show an example of the report based on the query". Seeing the example usually settles the remaining detail, and the button becomes available.

**Good to know**

Drafts save themselves as you go. You can close Stella mid-conversation and pick it up later by clicking the report under **Drafts** in your Report List.
